An additional service specifically for stripped shutters and doors is to have them
"dipped" in a special solution of wood
preservative. There is tremendous benefit in actually
immersing the wood in preservative because the fluid literally penetrates every crevice
that cannot be reached by brush or even spraying. And crucial to extending the life of
your shutters is to allow the end grain to absorb the preservative thereby reducing future
moisture intake and dimensional movement. The moisture content of the wood is checked and
must be below 18% before this process is carried out.
All exterior woodwork should be treated immediately after manufacture in the same
way, IT DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!
